How About Now?

How 2 can be defined by its trademark white studio, tabletop items and make-believe sets, and yet on a few occasions the show has dared to leave the safe confines of the studio.

The first occasion was for CiTV's Comedy Week, the How2 Comedy Special was shot partly in the studio, but used the device of an invisible white door in the studio which would enable to team to explore the real word. Carol went to the laboratories of Glasgow University to study the effects of laughter on the human body, Gareth went to Glasgow's Botanical Gardens to study laughter in the wild, and Fred went to Glasgow's Palace Theatre to tell the story of the funniest piece of music ever. Finally the entire team converged on the stage of the theatre to explain How the basic rules of comedy work.

The second time the team went out and about was for the How 2 Christmas Special, shot during a 3 day trip to Finnish Lapland in 1998. Temperatures dropped to 20 degrees below freezing, but shooting went on, this was a relief to the team after the searing heat of the massive array of lights used in the studio to achieve the How 2 famous "white-out" look. In Finland the white-out would be provided naturally by the thick snow.
