Gareth Over the Moon
Gareth recently had the opportunity to meet one of his all time heroes, General
Alexei Leonov. The first man to walk in space was in London to take part in Channel
4's Real Time Apollo a live 4 hour celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the
first moon landing presented by Gareth's partner from the Big Bang; Violet Berlin.
Knowing that Gareth would dearly love to hang out with one of his idols, Violet
arranged for Gareth to attend a meeting with Leonov on the 20th of July; the
day of the anniversary.
Over coffee Leonov was able to answer a number of questions about the space race
that Gareth wanted to ask.
"It was just wonderful, Alexei means a great deal to me, he would have been
the first man to walk on the Moon if only the Soviets had got their first. He
is
one of the great pioneers of manned space flight and the greatest living hero
of the Soviet Union, I was privileged to be in his company, and I am deeply indebted
to Violet".
Gareth's debt to Violet will be paid back most generously, no doubt.
