Karting for Kids and Kidneys

In April, motor-nut Jones put on his race suit and joined the Johnny Herbert Fan Club for their Spring charity kart race.

The charities to benefit this time were The Ilkley Candlelighters (a children's cancer charity) and The National Kidney Research Fund.

The race was attended by members of Johnny's fan club and names from the world of motor racing such as Louise Goodman from the ITV F1 team and Mika Hakkinen... well, not the Mika Hakkinen, but a Mika Hakkinen. It was the former double-world-champion's official look-alike, Carl Stevens. (pictured above)

Gareth's duties weren't only restricted to the race track, he was also called upon to help host the evening on behalf of Johnny Herbert himself, who was absent due to testing duties in the USA in preparation for his entry into this year's Indianapolis 500.

This event was slightly different to the usual format of team racing, this time Gareth was out there on his own, and came a respectable 24th out of 40 competitors. Well done, Gareth! Next stop, Le Mans? Watch this space.
